LOS ANGELES — A college basketball player died Sunday after he was “sickened” by a classmate, police said.
Amber L. Gaskill, 22, was pronounced dead at a hospital after being hospitalized for more than 24 hours with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.
Gaskill was shot in the chest while she slept on a couch at her residence in a residential neighborhood in South Los Angeles, police Sgt. David Pimentel said.
The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. in the 700 block of East Larkspur Avenue, Pimentelsa said.
The shooting victim was identified as 19-year-old Justin Alexander.
Police are investigating whether Gaskills killing was an act of terrorism or a case of domestic violence.
She is the first homicide victim of her young life, according to the LAPD.
