The Himalayats have been inhabited by nomadic pastoralists for over 3,000 years and their culture is based on the use of their traditional medicine and their religious practices.
Their names include Ganga, Kargil and Harappa.
There are several different ways to explore the Himalayan region, with some places offering trekking, mountaineering and fishing, others offering adventure and some offering natural beauty and wildlife.
